Hyōgo Prefecture (兵庫県) is a region located on the main island of Honshu, Japan, situated within the central Kansai area. It boasts two coastlines: the northern side faces the Sea of Japan, also referred to as the East Sea, while the southern shore borders the Seto Inland Sea, commonly known as the Inland Sea. The capital city, Kobe, lies along the southern coast and, alongside Osaka and Kyoto, forms the Keihanshin (京阪神) metropolitan area, which ranks as the second-largest in Japan in terms of population. The waterfront in Kobe is a popular destination, particularly in Meriken Park, home to attractions such as the iconic Kobe Port Tower and the Kobe Maritime Museum. From Kobe Port, visitors can embark on boat tours across the expansive Osaka Bay, where they can see Awaji Island and other smaller, often artificial, islands. In Himeji City, you'll find Japan's most frequented castle, Himeji Castle, celebrated for exemplifying traditional Japanese castle architecture. Hyōgo is also known for its exceptional hot spring resorts, with Arima and Kinosaki being the most famous. Demographics: Over 5.5 million residents Capital: Kobe Notable cities: Ako
