The Crimean Peninsula, frequently referred to as Crimea, is a prominent land area situated on the northern shores of the Black Sea, bordered on nearly all sides by this sea as well as the smaller Sea of Azov to the northeast. Geographically, it lies south of Ukraine's Kherson region and to the west of Russia's Kuban territory. The peninsula is linked to Kherson Oblast via the Isthmus of Perekop and is divided from Kuban by the Kerch Strait.
