The nesting site of the Black stork is situated in Sigulda County, in central Latvia. Although it was identified two years ago, the breeding habitat has been recognized since 1982. A marten predation incident in 2005 led to the abandonment of the previous nest, which likely caused the storks to relocate to their current site. This new nest is positioned on a pine branch, approximately 1.8 meters from the tree trunk. The surrounding area is characterized by a boreal pine-spruce forest that is estimated to be between 150 and 200 years old. In 2017, a trail camera was set up near the nest. That year, four chicks hatched, with three successfully fledging. The last chick left the nest relatively late, on September 6, likely due to a delayed breeding season.
