Osprey Nest Live Stream: broadcasting from Charlo, Montana. Nestled near the treetops where the Great Horned Owl family resides, a pair of ospreys is in the process of constructing a new nest and starting their own family! They arrived in Charlo on April 12, 2016, and wasted no time preparing their nest, gathering sticks and collecting soil from the nearby freshly plowed field. Following a brief courtship, the pair has commenced mating. Over the next few weeks, they are expected to engage in as many as 160 mating attempts, which will eventually lead to a clutch of two to four eggs. These eggs will incubate for 35 to 42 days before hatching, with both parents providing a fish-exclusive diet for themselves and their hatchlings. During the incubation and chick-rearing stages, the eggs and chicks will receive near-constant supervision from their parents to protect them from potential predators. Approximately fifty days post-hatching, the young ospreys will start strengthening their wings in preparation for their first flights from the nest. By early September, the fledglings will embark on their independent journeys south for the winter in South America.
