Venice Webcam: live streaming view of the Grand Canal. Experience the same breathtaking vistas that inspired French Impressionist painter Claude Monet during his visit to Venice. The Grand Canal, known in Italian as the Canal Grande, is the most iconic waterway in Venice. Unlike man-made canals, it evolved naturally as a narrow waterway between the lagoon's islands, with Rivals being one of them. This canal weaves through the city, starting at the lagoon near the train station. It flows in a gentle, inverted "S" shape and eventually merges with the channels of San Marco and La Giudecca by the customs building. Stretching 3,800 meters in length, it varies in width from 30 to 70 meters, with a depth of about 5 meters. The banks of the canal are primarily lined with building facades rather than traditional embankments, as homes along the canal are typically built on stilts. This creates distinct pathways for travel—both on solid ground and on water. The Grand Canal is home to some of the city's most stunning architecture, earning it the nickname "Canal Palace" among locals. Over 100 magnificent palaces adorn its banks, including notable examples such as Ca’ Rezzonico, Ca’ d’Oro
