Taiwan is a small island nation situated off the southeastern shore of China. It is renowned for its rich heritage, which includes traditional Chinese temples, stunning mountain scenery, and soothing hot springs. In the capital city, Taipei, stands the iconic Taipei 101, a skyscraper resembling bamboo that reaches a height of 509 meters. Approximately 97% of the population in Taiwan is of ethnic Chinese descent, while nearly 3% consists of indigenous groups who communicate in various Taiwanese languages belonging to the Austronesian family. The official language is Chinese, although many residents also converse in different Chinese dialects, as well as Taiwanese and Hakka. The island employs traditional Chinese characters in its writing system. Taiwan experiences a maritime tropical climate characterized by hot, humid summers and rainy winters in the northeastern regions, whereas the central and southern areas enjoy predominantly sunny weather.
