The male, A-64, is her brother and emerged from the same nest in 2008. A-64 faced a challenge early on when he was knocked from the nest by a subadult eagle, resulting in a puncture wound in his beak. After receiving veterinary care, he was safely released back onto Santa Cruz Island from a hacking tower.
