A live webcam has been set up in Cathedral Square in Orvieto, Italy, offering a real-time view of the Orvieto Cathedral. This stunning structure, dating back to the early 14th century, features a beautifully adorned façade with golden mosaics and is particularly renowned for its chapel filled with frescoes. As a Roman Catholic cathedral, it is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and was constructed to commemorate a miracle that transpired in a nearby church in Bolsena. Legend has it that a traveling priest, who was skeptical about the essence of Transubstantiation, witnessed a miraculous event in Orvieto’s cathedral where a bleeding host stained the altar cloth. Today, this cloth is preserved in the Chapel del Corporeale located within the cathedral. The edifice stands majestically above the town, built on a volcanic rise, and its façade reflects a blend of architectural styles from the 14th to the 20th centuries, featuring an impressive rose window, golden mosaics, and three large bronze doors. Inside, visitors can find two small chapels decorated with frescoes by some of Italy's most illustrious artists of the era, illustrating scenes of the Last Judgment. The cathedral is also home to five Renaissance bells.
