Rosie Hummingbird Nest Live Camera: Rosie, a hybrid of Allen's and Rufous hummingbirds, is thought to be the progeny of Bella Hummingbird. This marks Rosie's second breeding season in the same ficus tree, and she is currently tending to her second set of eggs for this season. Her initial brood, named Blossom and Banji, successfully fledged on March 4, 2016. Rosie began constructing this nest in the ficus even before her first chicks had taken flight. Like many hummingbirds, Rosie has the capacity to rear up to five broods each year in nests that are roughly the size of half a golf ball. Each of her eggs is slightly larger than a Tic Tac. After a period of 15 to 18 days, the chicks emerge blind, featherless, and entirely dependent, prompting Rosie to nourish them with a diet of insects and nectar. The young birds take their first flights 23 to 28 days after hatching, ready to explore the sky.
