It was designated as a natural monument on July 19, 2000, and was later recognized by UNESCO for its geological significance, earning a place on the World Natural Heritage List on July 2, 2007. Rising to an impressive height of 182 meters, this towering tuff cone features a well-preserved crater that resembles a distinct bowl. The inner formations, sculpted by the relentless action of the sea cliffs, enhance its breathtaking allure. Initially, Seongsan Ilchulbong was an isolated island, but over time, sand and gravel formed a natural pathway during low tide, and in 1940, a permanent road was constructed, connecting it to the mainland. In addition to its geological features, Seongsan Ilchulbong is home to a rich variety of plant life, boasting 222 species, including six rare kinds
