Mount Etna, also known simply as Etna, is an active stratovolcano situated on Sicily's eastern coast in the Metropolitan City of Catania, nestled between Messina and Catania. It is recognized as the tallest active volcano in Europe and the highest elevation in Italy south of the Alps. Among the world's most active volcanoes, Mount Etna is characterized by nearly continual volcanic activity. The nutrient-rich volcanic soils foster rich agricultural production, with vineyards and orchards flourishing along the mountain's lower slopes and across the expansive Plain of Catania to the south.
